American Baptist Churches in the U.S.A.

November 28, 2009

The American Baptist Churches (ABC) is commonly thought of as a theologically moderate Protestant Christian denomination.  It was formerly known as the Northern Baptist Convention, but in 1950 changed its name to the ABC.  In 1972 It adopted its current name.  In 2005, The American Baptist Churches had approximately 1,396,700 members with 5740 churches in the United States.

The involvement of the ABC in the FACT2000 project was somewhat complex. 665 churches from three regional divisions (CT, Ohio, and Central) were surveyed. In addition, a general random survey of 800 ABC congregations also was done. A total of 748 questionnaires were returned for a 53.6 % response rate. View the version of the questionnaire used by the American Baptist Churches.

If you are interested in obtaining specific information about the results of the ABC survey please get in touch with their denominational contact person Jeff Woods at jeff.woods@abc-usa.org

You can read read the press release the American Baptist Churches wrote about their Faith Communities Today findings in FACT2000.
